Query

Here’s a query letter I slaved over last week (ain’t easy compressing a novel into one page). A myriad of agents will be receiving it shortly . . .

Literary Agent,

Evelyn Burdock's summer vacation has become a nightmare.

In my novel Waiting for You, Evelyn has graduated from St. Stephen’s High School with honors after making friends with the popular cheerleaders she tutored senior year. All four of them plan to spend an amazing week together at a secluded cabin on Crescent Lake, Oregon.

But while jogging through the woods, Evelyn takes a wrong turn and plunges down a ravine, injuring herself. Boaz Tompkins, a young local, appears and carries her to his shack deep in the forest. His kindness and care gradually evolve into obsessive control as he refuses to go for help. He says God brought her to be his wife, the “helpmate” he’s been praying for.

What follows is a cat-and-mouse game as Evelyn makes repeated attempts to escape, only to be thwarted by Boaz’s uncanny ability to predict her every move. He won’t allow anything—or anyone—to come between them. And as the body count increases, Evelyn realizes that no one will be able to rescue her from this murderer. She has to save herself—even if it means disobeying the commandment “Thou shalt not kill.”

The complete manuscript of Waiting for You (111,000 words) is available upon request. Fans of suspenseful thrillers are the intended audience.

I have been writing for twenty years and teaching English for ten. I am currently taking the first steps toward publication. A Fly in Amber recently purchased my short story “Hero for Hire” which will appear in their January issue.

Thank you for your generous time. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Milo Fowler
