Not Alone

“Wherever they's a fight so hungry people can eat, I'll be there. Wherever they's a cop beatin' up a guy, I'll be there... I'll be in the way guys yell when they're mad an'—I'll be in the way kids laugh when they're hungry and they know supper's ready. An' when our folk eat the stuff they raise an' live in the houses they build—why, I'll be there.”
– Tom Joad, The Grapes of Wrath

One of the best things about being a writer is this online community we’ve got. We’re here for each other. Whenever one of us needs to shout something worth shouting from the rooftops, we appear en masse to rejoice with virtual slaps on the back. Whenever we’re down in the pits of despair due to woes every struggling artist knows , we’re here to lend a sympathetic comment or few.

Writers inspire writers. And thanks to Aaron Polson’s recent post, I’m here to give six of my fellow writers a well-deserved shout-out. They certainly live up to the “Write Hard Spirit.”

Aaron Polson, CK Wagner, Jennifer Hillier, Simon Kewin, Stephanie Loree, Steve Ramey

Each has been a constant source of inspiration to me since I entered the blogosphere as an unpublished writer, and I wouldn’t trade their encouraging comments for anything.

On the writing front, this has been a week for good news. My story “Breathe” was purchased by Golden Visions Magazine, and my “Captain Quasar” story was nominated in the Preditors & Editors Readers’ Poll (which doesn’t close until the 26th, by the way).

In Write1Sub1 news, we’re up to 91 participants, and I’ve got this week’s story out: “Starlight” to Fantasy. Despite plenty of past rejections from this market, I remain hopeful.
